I’m Kristen Kellar, an artist and muralist based in Springfield, Ohio. To me, a beautifully designed space is made up of thoughtfully collected layers that come together to tell a story—and my hope is to contribute to that narrative through the artwork I create.
My paintings are often filled with florals and greenery that celebrate the soft movement and pretty color palettes found in nature. There’s a quiet reward you get to enjoy when you slow down to admire the small details, which is one of the reasons I’m most drawn to the subject. Each finished painting then becomes an invitation to pause and experience the peace that reveals itself when taking the time to appreciate beauty.
Over the years, my work has shifted from life-like studies into more intuitive compositions. I love exploring how intentional colors, light brushmarks, and familiar yet simplified forms can capture the feeling of a scene. It’s a practice in letting go of perfectly replicating the inspiration and introducing a little nuance into the storyline.
Outside of working in my home studio, I create murals for both residential and commercial spaces. I also co-own Frame Haven, a local custom framing shop where we run both a storefront and an Etsy shop. Between all of these projects, I love thrifting for home finds, learning to grow and cook healthy food, exploring new places and revisiting old favorites, and spending time at home with my husband, Jimmy, and our puppy, Clover.
